Forever Sweet Memories....

Covocation for my Masters Degree in counselling psychology, well I admit I didn't feel the same amount of happiness when I attended my Undergraduate convocation, Though it was my first experience in attending one way back in 2004.
Till today I thought that is a formal function in which they hand out degrees to the graduates, but my post graduate convocation gave me a new dimension of it.
As soon as I entered MSSW- my good old college, sweet memories came fleeting back. How I came along with my mom to seek admission...how I got addmission in the Msc. Counselling psychology stream instead of the Masters in Social Work that I had opted for previously...(which has proved to be a blessing in disguise today!!)...How I reached college early (@8am instead of 10am ) on the day of the enterance exam & interview.... How I met my friends for the first time who today are the most precious assets I have.... How I met my professors & lecturers for the first time.... the intro sessions to my class faculty &friends.... the classes(the theory & practical exams of course!! though the latter was much more fun than the former.).... the soft skills workshop& the amount of fun we had organising it.... the never ending chat sessions.... tea, samosas & sandwitches from a local eatery....hanging out @ a popular restaurant nearby sometimes... the stone bench...the visits to the Egmore Museum & the popular Connemera Library.... & the farewell.

Well all this has led to my convocation, I felt really happy, I went to the room where they were handing out the convocation gown & collar(in a bright yellow colour!) collected them & moved into the auditorium were graduates were seated, some along with their families while some had come alone... I was the first to reach the auditorium from my stream. As time passed the auditorium started buzzing with people & in an hour it was packed!!

The programme began & after the initial formalities our HOD reached the podium & guess whose name he called out first ..... Mine!! I was totally surprised as I was not expecting that I would be called out first!! I got up & walked up the stage & recieved my degree at that moment I felt elated!!My hands were trembling with excitement as I touched my certificate....I could sense a feeling of accomplishment... the whole auditorium was clapping as I walked down out of the stage & reached my seat. My friends & parents ( they reached right on time to "click"me as I recieved my certificate.) congratulated me, suddenly I heard a familar voice "What Archana! Remember me?"I turned around to see my 7th standard biology teacher Mrs. Elizabeth George standing behind me I was ovejoyed to see her as she was one of my favourite teacher way back in school!! I requested her to pose for a photo with me which she did. she congratulated me & said I have achieved something great like everyone else did that day. But recieving a post- graduate is a joyous occassion no doubt, but it is not the greatest achievement according to me.... (the greatest achievement is yet to come....)

Apart from enabling me to earn a post graduate degree in counselling psychology this college has taught me some lessons for life such as assertiveness, horned my communication skills, helped me understand people, & one of the greatest gift it has given me is the motivation & courage to start my own counselling centre "Sampurn" @ Abhiramapuram chennai.( see previous post titled" My Brain Child" for details on "Sampurn".) Iam happy to state that " Sampurn" is doing really well since its inception on May last year.

I would like to thank my Principal Maam,Professors, Lecturers & last but not the least my driving force & motivators- my dearest& best of Friends- Ganesh-Bhavna,Dorthy, Banumathi,Shari, Liya, & Varadharajan.
Special thanks to the most wonderful couple Ganesh & Bhavna (even though I know " Thanks" is a very small word for all that they have done for me!!!) for always being there for me then, now & forever!!!
Iam sure with all the ever supporting & motivating above said friends I can reach greater heights in my profession in the near future!!
I would like to quote Robert Frost: "Miles to go.... Before I Sleep." MSSW days & convocation ceremony to me shall be sweet memories forever!!

"Hi da machan... how are you?"

personal loan interest,
housing loan EMI,
